Mark Berven is President and Chief Operating Officer of Nationwide Property and Casualty Agency Operations. He also serves as the company’s Chief Strategy and Product Management Officer. Mark Berven is president and chief operating officer of Nationwide Property & Casualty Agency Operations
The company has recently announced a restructuring of its subsidiaries and divisions. Under Berwen’s leadership, the agency operations division will include specialty agency operations, independent agencies, and personal and commercial lines. Burwen has held positions of increasing responsibility since joining Nationwide in 1994. Also served as senior vice president for production and pricing for all property and casualty operations.
Barwen joined the country in 1994. He has held various leadership roles at the company and served as Chief Strategy and Product Management Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency Operations Division. Active in community and industry organizations. Sits on the board of the National 4-H Council and serves as director of the St. John’s School of Risk Management. He is board chair of the Columbus State Community College Foundation and the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
In addition to Barren, several other statewide officers will report to him. Other members of the organization’s group are Mark Thrasher, Patricia Hatler, Man Jochius, Mike Keller, and Gail King. The company’s chief operating officer, Kim Osten, will retire in March 2015. there’s no apparent connection to Walmart Pet Rx or the identity of the Nationwide commercial singer.

Nationwide says its technology allows agents to match their customers with the right coverage options in minutes instead of hours. It also allows for rapid development of user interfaces and keeps operations flexible.
Chief strategy and product management officer
As president of the nationwide property and casualty operations, Mark is responsible for both independent and specialty agency distribution of the company’s property insurance. He previously served as the company’s Chief Strategy and Product Management Officer and has held several positions of increasing responsibility throughout his career. He also served as a regional vice president in both specialty agency and independent channels and as the company’s senior vice president of product and pricing for all property and casualty operations.
Burwen has been associated with 41 companies in his 61-year career. The most recent companies were incorporated in February this year. He has held various leadership positions, including the National 4-H Board, the Insurance Information Institute, and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. He also serves as past chairman of the Columbus-Area Childhood League Center and is involved in various capacities with the United Way of Central Ohio.
Nationwide is reorganizing its subsidiaries to form a single, consolidated company. Burwen will now oversee the company’s P&C agency operations, including exclusive and independent agency operations and commercial and personal lines. Mark Pizzi will lead Nationwide Direct and Nationwide Bank, while Kurt Walker will lead Nationwide Financial. He will continue to lead Nationwide Financial and Nationwide Direct.
